The Guest House

This being Human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame,
malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

From Essential Rumi
By Coleman Barks

When I first heard Beloved Kuan Yin (Through a Heartstream) say "to love your darkness", I was quite shocked. Since that time, I have gained an appreciation for Her words of wisdom. Rumi captures this sentiment so well. By welcoming these energies and perceiving them for what they truly are; allows for a form of purification to take place. I see this loving/welcoming process as a means of transmutation. In the past when these types of thoughts and feelings would surface I would feel digust and shame. I now love them and send these energies back to God, from whince all energy is derived, for requalification. As I continue this process, I feel cleaner inside and I believe this is preparing my temple (The Guest House) for My Beloved of Great Delight.

Re: Rumi Roem - Homework Week #3

from...LOVE ENDS ALL ARGUEMENTS

...a companion of the prophet said:
"WHENEVER THE MESSENGER RECITED REVELATION TO US, HE
WOULD DEMAND COMPLETE ATTENTIVENESS." IT'S AS IF A BIRD PERCHED ON YOUR HEAD, AND YOUR SOUL WANTS IT TO STAY.
YOU DON'T COUGH, YOU HARDLY BREATHE, and if someone else starts talking, you put your finger to your lips: shhh.
ASTONISHMENT IS THE BIRD THAT SILENCES YOU. IT PUTS A LID ON YOUR KETTLE SO THAT YOU BOIL. Mathnawi V,3224-3250
**************
In my desire to concentrate, stay focused, be STILL and experience gnosis, I called for help. I found this passage and as I visualized Al-lah, the Holy Spirit, the LOVE that passes all understanding as a BEAUTIFUL BIRD upon the top of my head, I knew I could not move and would want to stay very quiet, not moving so IT would stay forever! I could feel IT's emanation penetrating my crown and moving like warm water on a paper towel throughout my body. OH BODY, DON'T MOVE! LET THIS LOVE SATURATE EVERY CELL UNTIL MY KETTLE BOILS!(it happens!)
