#1 When I am with you, we stay up all night, When you're not here, I can't get to sleep. Praise God for these two insomnias! And the difference between them. #2 The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don't finally meet somewhere, they're in each other all along. I loved both of these poems, they both captured my heart because they resonanted so well with my own musings. It is so wonderful to realize that the longing you have for the beloved is truly one in the same as your own Mighty I AM Presence, Your Christ/Buddha Self, Your Father/Mother God..whom are all the same in my mind. Really there is no separation. When I was a little girl I loved fairy tales, the prince on the white horse..I have had those types of dreams all my life. The searchings and longings can begin anew, alas with a new twist..One can look within one's heart and strive to find the Beloved within, the one who completes me and truly makes me sing a new song of joy. These poems were so refreshing and exhilarating. My favorite movie is "Somewhere in Time", where a young man travels through time to find his Beloved. While reading many of Rumi's poems I begin to feel I could do the same. " Somewhere in Time my Beloved awaits! |

pg 14 Love's Ripening "If you are so in love with art, why not dip yourself like a paintbrush in the paint?" In Egypt Lord Lanto asked me if I had every painted the threefold flame. I said yes. He replied by asking if I had painted it on my heart. Both Lord Lanto and Tabrizi bid us to become inner artisans. |

OPEN THE WINDOW There's a street where the Beautiful one is known to take a stroll When a certain radience is noticed through the latticed windows of that neighborhood, people whisper, The Beloved must be near, Listen: open a window to God and breathe. Delight yourself with what comes through that opening. The work of love is to create a window in the heart, for the breast is illumined by the beauty of the Beloved. Gaze incessantly on that Face! Listen, this is in your power, my friend! Find a way to submit your innermost secret. Let no other perception distract you. You,yourself, possess the elixir, so rub it into your skin, and by this alchemy your inner enemies will become friends. And as you are made beautiful, the Beautiful One will become your own, the intimate of your once lonely spirit. Mathnarwi v1 This poem spoke to my heart in it's simplicity, beauty, clarity, reality. Rumi poems Longing for the Birds of Solomon Is this stuff poetry? It's what birds sing in cages. Where are the words spoken by the birds of Solomon? How would you know their cries, if you heard them, When you haven't seen Solomon even for two seconds? Solomon's bird lifts his wings, one tip touches East, one West. Those who hear the notes feel an intensity in their whole body. The bird descends from the Holy One's bedroom door to earth. And from earth it flies among light back to the Great Seat. Without Solomon every bird is a bat in love with darkness. Listen, oh mischievous bat, try to become his friend. Do you want to stay in your cave forever? If you go even three feet towards Solomon's mountain, Others will use that as a yardstick to measure their lives. Suppose your leg is gimpy, and you have to hop, what's the difference? Going toward Solomon, even by limping, the leg grows whole. Translation by Robert Bly 'The Rumi Collection' Ed Kabir Helminski JKO's Commentary: In the Qur'an there is much writing of Solomon's abilities to be one with; to guide the elementals. A true Sufi, Solomon's way is that of the uplifting aerial dance of a bird, reaching for the wisdom of the sun... |
